Our Cinema Launch Promo film!

What’s our style, point of view, inspiration for photography or cinema????  It’s easy, “We shoot what we love and we do it with emotion + Art.”  I’m not interested in making images or films that depict otherwise.  Don’t imaging having your life documented based on the things you want to remember, think in terms of the things you NEVER want to forget =)  Watch the promo……… Now =)

We are expanding!!!!

Yup, It’s true I say!  I’ve been hinting around about the changes around the studio for several months now and at some point I will write a blog post about the many things, people and circumstance that have made 2011 such a tumultuous yet outstanding year both personally and professionally but for now I’m super stoked to announce that here at Cindy Guessford Studios we are officially launching our Beloved Cinema Division.  We have been quietly shooting all year both stills and video and have made some beautiful pieces that absolutely document and preserve the memories of you and the ones you love.  We have also launched our Beloved Experience which will be the only type of portrait session that we offer moving forward.  What this means for us is that we are embracing our creativity and not limiting it to a specific medium.  My studio will be a full service hybrid photo/cinema studio.  We offer photo and cinema coverage for The Beloved Experience as well as Weddings.  To learn more visit www.theBelovedExperience.com or just contact me.  I would love to chat about future projects and commissions.

I’ve also had to re-evaluate my business model and will no longer be accepting as a studio multiple bookings.  In the past 8+ years, the studio has employed several photographers, editors, designers, filmakers etc… We have shot multiple events per date.  The new model will require that each person employed here at CG Studios to be cross trained in every aspect of studio operations as well as both still and cinema shooting.  We will only be accepting 40 weddings/events per year.  This will allow me to focus on the things I love (shooting, planning, pleasing my clients) and for the rest of the team to be fully present and available under my direction to do the same.  The 2012 Wedding season is nearly booked to capacity and 2013 is shaping up to be one of our quickest and earliest years of bookings to date. phewwwwww! such an exciting time to embrace technology =))))

Now on to the hiring bit.  I’m looking to have a few very special candidates join my team.  Specifically photo/cinema shooters.  I can tell you that my expectations are high but I will never ask of you anything that I myself won’t personally do.  Everyone here works together in unison to create not just the type of product we love but also the kind of experience for our clients that means something.  Those who do not posses exceptional client relations skills need not even read any further.  Here is a short list of qualifications that will get you to the top of the list:

Candidates must have:

  • knowledge of available light photography
  • ability to utilize flash, strobe, led lights, wireless triggers
  • pro level gear ( i don’t so much care if it’s Canon or Nikon – just get it right in camera and in focus)
  • working knowledge of at least 2 of these  -Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere, Final cut (insert any video or audio editing software) Excel, Wordpress, HTML
  • full knowledge of color theory and the color wheel
  • no ego – we are all important parts of the body of work and collections presented to clients

Here’s the catch, if you have all of the qualifications listed below then I may let that trump missing some of the above qualifications:

  • A great disposition, positive outlook
  • the ability to leave your problems at the door and get the job done
  • a thick skin and a cool head
  • a passion for film, digital stills or cinema
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view – yes – wildly important
  • timeliness ( lateness is not tolerated ever – it brings the angry out in me – you don’t want to see me when I’m angry ;-)
  • a willingness to learn, grow, create, prosper
  • last but not least – the desire to be fearless in how you pursue the moment, the image, the scene, the shot, the task and most importantly  fulfilling the needs of our clients.

SO that’s the skinny! If you feel that you are the next addition to my team or know someone who is please send a resume and a letter of Why I should hire you to Cindy@theBelovedExperience.com

extra points awarded to those who have an affection for home brewing and/or are a great cook.  Okay, not really but we do like to have a cool, laid back work environment providing all of the work gets done.  Just sayin!

Resumes will be accepted until January 20th.  Interviews will be conducted on Saturday January 21st & Monday January 23rd.  I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

PS! I have the uncanny ability to find the diamond in the rough and I appreciate heart more than credentials but you must have photo/video skill sets.

I always love arriving to a session where you are welcomed like a familiar face!  Hanging out with families where you have shot several weddings, maternity, family sessions, babies and now a first bday!!!  I love it =) After Deb tried shoving loads of yummy food on me, which of course I gladly accepted, I got to hang out and share in some really cool moments with Michaela as she got ready for the big #1 celebration.  A feisty little redhead with sparkling blue eyes and the sweetest of dispositions.   Oh Michaela, I know that you already have a fan club but you may as well add one more.  Happy birthday to you !!!

Tara and Rory are becoming quite the regular topics of this ole blogitty!!!  First the wedding, then maternity and now, you guessed it!  A beautiful baby boy joins the clan =)  Tara and Rory are unlike most new parents that I have been around.  They are both just so comfortable in their new roles as parents.  It’s as if this is what they were meant to do. I’ve known Tara for a very long and I have watched her grow from a spunky college student to the amazing person and mother that she is today.  I couldn’t be happier that she has found someone like Rory who not only completely adores her but is also a spunky little match.  Together they have loads of love that they share freely with family and friends and I know that little Remi will get more than his fair share.  Rory’s inability to control his smiles and happiness (which I first witnessed during the maternity session) has continued with the baby session.  The smiles and laughter were infectious and always gives me the warm and fuzzies seeing a man so happy to be a Father.  So, a big ole congrats to you both!!!

Welcome little Sabrina {baby}

This year has been blessed with the continuation of the story of life for many of our past wedding clients.  I’m always honored and thankful when I get the call or email saying,” guess what, we just had a baby and would love to have you do a session!”  I have always stressed the importance of the relationship that my studio builds with our clientele.  We may not be the studio for everyone and I’m okay with that because you can’t be everything to everybody but for those that love our shooting style we love ya back 100 times over!

In general when selecting a photographer to document your moments, I’ve heard many comments about my work and those of my friends.  Truth is, you may not love the way we post process images and hey, that’s art it’s subjective.  Some people even wonder if the skies are real, well yes, they are ha, ha.  Blue skies do happen even here on the east coast where golden light comes to die, especially since blue is the major color wavelength absorbed by gas molecules – that’s a whole other conversation and involving science which is my 1st great love.   That is of course unless we are shooting twilight shots and we white balance for tungsten creating a bluer dreamier night sky.

My point is this and yes, I do have one…  I’m thankful for the many clients past and present who LOVE what we do and “get” or style and Trust in us enough to grow the relationship past the engagement or wedding.  We don’t want to just shoot your wedding.  We want to document the most important moments of your lives…  We want to be your personal photographers and for the past 6 years we have done just that so thank you bunches!!!

I’m so happy to continue Kelly and Bob’s story with the addition of Sabrina.  I’ve enjoyed seeing and getting to know Kelly and Bob and their family.  Pause now for a shout out to the Macnamee sisters, woot woot!!  The referrals upon referrals are much appreciated =)  Sabrina is just so beautiful and perfect.  Congratulations and welcome to the world of parenthood.  I can’t guarantee that you will ever sleep through the night again but I can promise that every time your little girl smiles and laughs in your direction, anything that you may be bothered by at that moment will just simply not matter.  It’s in these small gestures that will fill your heart greater than you ever dreamed possible.  So buckle up, girls are fun, ha ha!  Your dad already knows that ;-)

“If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good”

~ Dr. Seuss

Let us never forget what it is like to experience something for the very first time.  The excitement, curiosity and divine sense of amazement as discovery ensues, washing over our senses and exposing them to new found wonders.  Let us never forget what it is like to laugh for no reason, it is contagious and not crazy…  Let us never forget what it feels like as the warm summer breeze caresses our face and blows silky strands of baby hairs…  Let us never forget what it feels like to experience all the “firsts” that life has to offer…

This is Dris at 9 months, I met him 9 months ago.  His mom contacted me (Thank you Stephanie and Tom) after being referred to me and I remember the email distinctly because she said, “you just have to meet my baby doll Dris!”  He was a  baby doll!  Gorgeous bright brown eyes and an infectious laugh that could warm any heart!  I love being able to document the growth in my clients.  Some from the womb and beyond!  Today I get to visit with Dris again.  He is 18 months old now.  Mom says he’s not a baby doll anymore but a little rock star and of course I’m greeted by his smiling cherub face and beautiful curly locks of hair and yes, he is a baby rock star.

You make me smile Dris!!!  I am so honored that I was there to play and delight in your discoveries as you walk through the fields and laughed at the dandelions for the first time.  Wind blowing your lovely locks, pulling and eating weeds (sorry Mom, I promise the weeds won’t hurt him.)  I want to laugh and spin and walk with you and bottle the wonder that I saw in your eyes today…  We could all use a little child like abandon every now and again!!!

The Make a Wish Portrait Special

…I'm not sure what happened first, the tear carving a slow and steady path down my cheek towards an already splatter marked corner of my desk or the realization that most of the places that these children who are suffering with life threatening illnesses were "wishing" to see, I had already seen.  A movie premier, a show, Disney, Hawaii, Jamaica…  The list goes on and on.  Moments like this snap me back into reality and it's hard to convey the humble feelings that I have and the overwhelming gratefulness towards charities.

That's why for this Holiday Season I am teaming up with my friends and fellow photographers Mark Gardner of Mark Gardner Photography and Nicole Polk of Nicole Polk Photography for our Make A Wish Portrait Promo!!!

Help Make a difference for a child in the Philadelphia/Susquehanna Valley area.
The Deal…. For the First 8 clients to contact either one of us and book a portrait/holiday/Baby /any reason session at the reduced rate of $250 you get ::::::Drum Roll ::::::

  • $250 includes – Session Fee
  • travel within the Greater Philadelphia Area and some parts of De, NJ
  • your names added to the list of donors
  • DVD of 25 high res images – with a usage release (use for gifts, holiday cards etc..)
  • online proofing and hosting for 90 days
  • 100% of the cost will be donated directly to The Make A Wish Foundation- Philadelphia/Susquehanna Valley Chapter
  • you may get one, two or even all 3 of us depending on availability

That's right folks!  100 percent donation baby!  I've done a ton of research on charities and I'm happy to say that this chapter of the Make a Wish foundation has received a 4 star ranking which is the highest that you can receive and they are among only 5% of the charities rated to receive this rating for 5 consecutive years.  The rating means a lot to me because it confirms that the charity exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its Cause.  A large portion of the funds collected actually go towards the cause they represent and that is huge!

So contact us now to book your session – limited availability

  • Cindy: Thanks to everyone who participated in the sessions and for your donations! (12.22.2009 02:43pm)

The smell of the salt air beckons me as I approach their beach house.  I am very excited to meet Amy and Vinny's new little bundle.  A day of firsts for little Julia…. Today will be her first photo session and her first trip to the beach!  We couldn't have asked for a nicer evening.  A gentle breeze blowing as the amber rays of the still warm late summer sun descends.  We make our way to the nearly deserted beach and spend some time hanging out until the sun is only a memory.   I often feel myself compelled to analyze this evolution of a relationship as I engage in my sessions.  I  notice a consistency that has endured since the day I shot Amy and Vinny's wedding, although I am sure there are many!  They still look at each other and behave in a way that is so very much in love and I see this look that they share with each other  when they look at Julia.  She is most certainly the apple of their eye!  Congrats to you both, it is so obvious that Julia is beautiful and healthy and very well loved!

Sarah + Chase + Hunter {Family}

It is effortless how Chase lifts and carries Hunter into the next room and with complete confidence and security undresses him and arranges his son in various poses for the photo shoot.  I'm amazed at how secure and comfortable he is, for no other reason than my experience with most new father's is that they are nervous around their new baby and exceedingly gentle so as not to break them.  I could feel the calm in the air amongst all three of them.  Mother, Father & Son…  Very infrequently do newborns make it through the session without crying.  It's very stressful for them, sleeping, eating, waking, being handled, naked, cold, etc… Not Hunter.  Calm as can be, peeking at me with his adorable little face.  This doesn't surprise me though because you see, from the first moment I met Sara she was so sweet and nice and wonderful and now that I have met Chase it's very easy to see that between the both of them the gene pool is very strong when it comes to these particular traits.  I wish you both the best on this venture as new parents I have a feeling that you'll be just fine!

Love the little piggies.
