Our Cinema Launch Promo film!

What’s our style, point of view, inspiration for photography or cinema????  It’s easy, “We shoot what we love and we do it with emotion + Art.”  I’m not interested in making images or films that depict otherwise.  Don’t imaging having your life documented based on the things you want to remember, think in terms of the things you NEVER want to forget =)  Watch the promo……… Now =)

We are expanding!!!!

Yup, It’s true I say!  I’ve been hinting around about the changes around the studio for several months now and at some point I will write a blog post about the many things, people and circumstance that have made 2011 such a tumultuous yet outstanding year both personally and professionally but for now I’m super stoked to announce that here at Cindy Guessford Studios we are officially launching our Beloved Cinema Division.  We have been quietly shooting all year both stills and video and have made some beautiful pieces that absolutely document and preserve the memories of you and the ones you love.  We have also launched our Beloved Experience which will be the only type of portrait session that we offer moving forward.  What this means for us is that we are embracing our creativity and not limiting it to a specific medium.  My studio will be a full service hybrid photo/cinema studio.  We offer photo and cinema coverage for The Beloved Experience as well as Weddings.  To learn more visit www.theBelovedExperience.com or just contact me.  I would love to chat about future projects and commissions.

I’ve also had to re-evaluate my business model and will no longer be accepting as a studio multiple bookings.  In the past 8+ years, the studio has employed several photographers, editors, designers, filmakers etc… We have shot multiple events per date.  The new model will require that each person employed here at CG Studios to be cross trained in every aspect of studio operations as well as both still and cinema shooting.  We will only be accepting 40 weddings/events per year.  This will allow me to focus on the things I love (shooting, planning, pleasing my clients) and for the rest of the team to be fully present and available under my direction to do the same.  The 2012 Wedding season is nearly booked to capacity and 2013 is shaping up to be one of our quickest and earliest years of bookings to date. phewwwwww! such an exciting time to embrace technology =))))

Now on to the hiring bit.  I’m looking to have a few very special candidates join my team.  Specifically photo/cinema shooters.  I can tell you that my expectations are high but I will never ask of you anything that I myself won’t personally do.  Everyone here works together in unison to create not just the type of product we love but also the kind of experience for our clients that means something.  Those who do not posses exceptional client relations skills need not even read any further.  Here is a short list of qualifications that will get you to the top of the list:

Candidates must have:

  • knowledge of available light photography
  • ability to utilize flash, strobe, led lights, wireless triggers
  • pro level gear ( i don’t so much care if it’s Canon or Nikon – just get it right in camera and in focus)
  • working knowledge of at least 2 of these  -Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere, Final cut (insert any video or audio editing software) Excel, Wordpress, HTML
  • full knowledge of color theory and the color wheel
  • no ego – we are all important parts of the body of work and collections presented to clients

Here’s the catch, if you have all of the qualifications listed below then I may let that trump missing some of the above qualifications:

  • A great disposition, positive outlook
  • the ability to leave your problems at the door and get the job done
  • a thick skin and a cool head
  • a passion for film, digital stills or cinema
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view
  • excitement, creativity, a point of view – yes – wildly important
  • timeliness ( lateness is not tolerated ever – it brings the angry out in me – you don’t want to see me when I’m angry ;-)
  • a willingness to learn, grow, create, prosper
  • last but not least – the desire to be fearless in how you pursue the moment, the image, the scene, the shot, the task and most importantly  fulfilling the needs of our clients.

SO that’s the skinny! If you feel that you are the next addition to my team or know someone who is please send a resume and a letter of Why I should hire you to Cindy@theBelovedExperience.com

extra points awarded to those who have an affection for home brewing and/or are a great cook.  Okay, not really but we do like to have a cool, laid back work environment providing all of the work gets done.  Just sayin!

Resumes will be accepted until January 20th.  Interviews will be conducted on Saturday January 21st & Monday January 23rd.  I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

PS! I have the uncanny ability to find the diamond in the rough and I appreciate heart more than credentials but you must have photo/video skill sets.

One thing that I truly love about spending time with the many people who we come into contact with is hearing their stories.  You always think that people have no interest in hearing the details of your life because maybe we think that the day to day happenings are just ordinary.  When in reality nothing really is ordinary at all because good, bad, indifferent and all of the in between constitutes what molds us and shapes us and in and of itself those moments can lead to very extraordinary things.  Listening to Angela tell Lori and I the details of going to the shore early on in their relationship and together they purchased a sea shell that had two little fish kissing and the word love above them.  Their relationship was new and so full of promise, they were happy and at that moment marriage wasn’t even in mind, just happy to be in love and looking forward to each day.  Now whenever she looks at the shell it makes her smile and reminds her of that time so long ago when things were just starting.  Matt described the day that he proposed and how he bought a bottle of Dom Perignon to celebrate.  He made a scrapbook for Angela and on the last page of the scrapbook he had placed the engagement ring.  He said that moment when he proposed was one of the best he had experienced in his life and to see the emotion in his eyes as he relayed his feelings just touched my heart.  I’m a sucker for a good love story and theirs truly is…  I’m very excited to have my studio document their day and Lori is even more excited to be shooting such a beautiful couple in love =)

  • Jenna: These pictures are wonderful! I love the way you captured the sparkle in my beautiful baby sister's eyes...best of luck Ang and Matt! (06.15.2011 11:02am)

Happy – Happy, Joy – Joy! {Engagement Sessions}

What!  You say it’s July already – shut up, really?!?!  Wedding season is in full swing and sessions are off the Hizzie!  My days blur into nights which blur into weekends and shooting.  I’m blessed to be so busy and of course I love every minute of it!  SO much to share and to post.  So far this year we have shot several destination weddings and many handfuls of engagement sessions. Also, BABIES!!!!!  Yes, this is the year that so many of my past wedding clients have called with that certain excitement in their voices announcing that little versions of themselves were coming soon =)  I have about a bazillion blogs to post, wish I could post every session but since we have expanded, Lori, Val, Brian and Jen have been shooting away making too much work for me.  So, for now here are a few recent E-Sessions.  Thank you to Emily & Sean, Allison & Jordan, Emily & Jon, Lauren & Ron and Jessica & Bill!  Please enjoy the slide show of some of my faves.

With 25 weddings already shot this year and a ton of sessions completed I want to take this moment to thank all of our past, present and future clients for your loyalty and trust!  We love the time we get to share with you and when my phone rings to hear that you want us to capture another momentous part of your life I am humbled and thankful!

Today I am working on Erin and Jim’s Engagement book and as I look at these images it brings me back to when we shot this session.  To say that I love the connection that Erin and Jim have would be an understatement.  I love to observe interactions and the little nuances about my clients.  I feel like it gives me perspective and helps when it’s time to document important moments in their lives.  What stands out in my mind about Erin is how no matter what expression is on her face as soon as Jim gets near her or snuggles her in she immediately smiles.  Not the kind of smile that you give to the camera at all.  This smile starts slowly and spreads across her face as it seems like a hidden little thought or secret has just crossed her mind.  It’s so adorable the way they make each other laugh and equally romantic in the tenderness of a quiet moment.  I shot long today, meaning that most of these images were made with my 70-200mm lens.  I wanted to be a good distance away because I knew that they were gonna just have some fun and I would play the role of lurker as I steal a few of these moments.  A beautiful afternoon spent with a couple who I sincerely look forward to spending the day with again very soon!

Megan will say the Jimmy Dean their pug stole the show and Kevin will say that Jimmy only listened to the commands accidentally =)  Regardless, I say that I love when I’m able to just wander the streets getting to know my clients and seeing the “before photo session anxiousness” melt away into a fun experience of enjoying the moments.  Megan pretty much left it in my hands for locations and both her and Kevin were up for anything.  I can’t stress enough how important trust is when photographing or being photographed.  This session really set the stage for the images to be captured on their wedding day.  I’m thankful to have clients like Megan and Kevin and I’m excited to share these images as well as the ones from their amazing wedding!

The Make a Wish Portrait Special

…I'm not sure what happened first, the tear carving a slow and steady path down my cheek towards an already splatter marked corner of my desk or the realization that most of the places that these children who are suffering with life threatening illnesses were "wishing" to see, I had already seen.  A movie premier, a show, Disney, Hawaii, Jamaica…  The list goes on and on.  Moments like this snap me back into reality and it's hard to convey the humble feelings that I have and the overwhelming gratefulness towards charities.

That's why for this Holiday Season I am teaming up with my friends and fellow photographers Mark Gardner of Mark Gardner Photography and Nicole Polk of Nicole Polk Photography for our Make A Wish Portrait Promo!!!

Help Make a difference for a child in the Philadelphia/Susquehanna Valley area.
The Deal…. For the First 8 clients to contact either one of us and book a portrait/holiday/Baby /any reason session at the reduced rate of $250 you get ::::::Drum Roll ::::::

  • $250 includes – Session Fee
  • travel within the Greater Philadelphia Area and some parts of De, NJ
  • your names added to the list of donors
  • DVD of 25 high res images – with a usage release (use for gifts, holiday cards etc..)
  • online proofing and hosting for 90 days
  • 100% of the cost will be donated directly to The Make A Wish Foundation- Philadelphia/Susquehanna Valley Chapter
  • you may get one, two or even all 3 of us depending on availability

That's right folks!  100 percent donation baby!  I've done a ton of research on charities and I'm happy to say that this chapter of the Make a Wish foundation has received a 4 star ranking which is the highest that you can receive and they are among only 5% of the charities rated to receive this rating for 5 consecutive years.  The rating means a lot to me because it confirms that the charity exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its Cause.  A large portion of the funds collected actually go towards the cause they represent and that is huge!

So contact us now to book your session – limited availability

  • Cindy: Thanks to everyone who participated in the sessions and for your donations! (12.22.2009 02:43pm)

I love when I can pose two people near each other and they immediately connect.  It's like woohoo, hollaaaaaa!  The natural, fun and loving way that Patty and Mike engage is so easy to document.  She looks in his direction and smiles so effortlessly.  He wraps his strong arms around her and she immediately relaxes and melts into them.  It is a special feeling and so wonderful to be able to see in action.  So today as the late afternoon sun dips beyond our view we finish roaming the streets of Philly and I am happy and excited to shoot more and more and more and more images of these two!  Here are some faves =)

The late afternoon sun is warm and welcoming as Joyce, Chris and I wander around the location that they scouted for their E-Session.  I love when clients peep out great spots full of color, texture and little nooks and crannies to explore.  Joyce told me how nervous they were about the session and I know how hard it can be on the other side of the lens.  Trust me as we walk and talk and forget that there is a camera.  Just focus on each other and this incredible connection that you share and just let me be there…..  She did, he did,  we shot…..  Here are a few of my faves =)

Sometimes the second time is a charm!  My first efforts to meet with Olga and Pavel to shoot their engagement session were greeted with the skies parting and pouring raindrops the size of peanut M & M's on us.  It was dark and thundering and lightning and although we were all there ready to go it was just not meant to be.  So we rescheduled and hoped for the best.  Luckily, not a raindrop in sight at our second meeting, a little dark and overcast but guess what, I'll take it!  Olga and Pavel are very sweet together.  A quiet and soft spoken nature about them just makes me want to lurk in the bushes so as not to disturb their serenity.  The way they interact with each other is so filled with love nad respect and these are two emotions that you cannot live without.  I feel very honored to be shooting their Wedding in a few months!
