Project {In-Real-Life.} Share the Happy in person =)

When was the last time you left the house without your phone or some kind of device that connected you to some kind of social media?

Are you someone or do you have a friend who is disconnected when in the presence of other humans because of constantly checking their phone, posting tweets or status updates? #FOMO a fear of missing out perhaps on what’s going on in the cyber world?

When was the last time you picked up that phone to call someone that you love and to have an actual conversation just for the sake of talking?

Have you ever met someone in person that you are friends with online and felt false sense of connection because you are privy to so much detail about them because of social media?

Have you been friends with or dare I say, Related to someone and you connect online yet haven’t seen them in person in days, weeks or even years?

When was the last time you took your arms and wrapped them around all of these “super special” people in a warm embrace, made time out of your busy busy life to actually live and engage with these so called besties?

Memes 1

I asked myself these very same questions last year when I took a good, long, hard look at my life and the relationships in my life and how the toxicity of some people, work, the pursuit of success and this seemingly 24 hour accessibility made it nearly impossible to please each and every client all of the time in a we want more and we want it for less and we want it right now generation. I knew I needed to simplify my studio, simplify my life and really focus on the relationships with people. Real People. In Real Life.

IRL – Abbreviation for “In Real Life.” Often used on the web to let people you are talking to know about something in the real world and not in the internet world. I knew that I didn’t want to live as a personality or entity online anymore and that I was drawn to the innate right as a human to have an actual human connection to the people that have through the years touched my life. So, I needed to get up off of my ass and take care of me first. Take care of my health. Be true to myself. I needed to do things that fed my soul like travel, cooking, reading an actual hard copy book and most importantly, showing the people I care most about and the friends who matter to me some actual love in person, In Real Life.

I started a personal project to do just that and I can say for certain that simplifying things has in fact made me incredibly happy. Nothing and I repeat NOTHING can or will ever replace the connection you make with someone in person. To see someone’s face light up because of an unexpected lunch date, to hear the sound of their toddler laughing and not because you watched and liked their facebook video, to wish a happy birthday and smell the smoke from blown out candles wafting through the air, to be there for someone that needs not just your spirit and well wishes but to hold their hand because they really didn’t need your words because your touch has transferred indescribable feelings of love and support.

I hope you all join me in support of Project {I.R.L} and reach out to the people that matter most to you. Living to work and socializing online only is no way to live. The hours and days that we have left in this lifetime of ours are already numbered and it would be a travesty to leave this planet without having actually lived and experienced all that you could with those that need this connection just as much if not more than you.

Happy Monday Everyone! Just to clarify, I love social media but I love humanity more so Let’s connect In Real Life! Until then, call, visit or write someone that has made an impact in your life. I guarantee that your work will not suffer and that the people whose lives you touch are worth far more than hundreds of likes on that last #Selfie.
